Study Shows Chiropractic Care Aids Asthma Sufferers

Doctor and Technology Offer a Breath of Fresh Air

(Wilmington, NC).   Dr. Curtis Fedorchuk, a chiropractor from Dahlonaga, Georgia armed with technology that has been used by NASA, has made remarkable inroads in the battle against asthma. Fedorchuk’s research was recently published in The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research and detailed the wonderful transformation of his star patient — a 7-year old girl who had suffered from severe asthma and chronic cough for almost her entire life.

Before encountering Dr. Fedorchuk, this little girl was using multiple oral medications and inhalers that totaled 24 inhalations per day — yet her symptoms persisted. Her parents were not only shouldering the financial burden of their daughter’s care, but the hours of lost sleep caused by asthma attacks impacted the entire family. Concerned about the volume of medications that their daughter was consuming, the parents sought help from Dr. Fedorchuk.

Following an examination using the Insight Discovery Subluxation Station (the diagnostic tool that has not only benefited the Space program, but has been used by chiropractors treating Super Bowl champions and Olympic gold medalists), the young girl began receiving chiropractic adjustments. By nightfall after her first adjustment, the little girl’s coughing ceased. Over the next three weeks (while visiting Dr. Fedorchuk for adjustments 2-3 times per week), the little girl’s mom reported no attacks, an increase in activity levels, and a decrease in the need to use an inhaler. After 4 weeks, she was no longer using the inhalers. Her teachers noticed the change in the child’s demeanor, while swimming and running became part of her everyday life. Subsequent tests showed an increase in lung capacity and the little girl’s visits to the chiropractor became less frequent. Within 10 months of from the onset of care, Dr. Fedorchuk’s young patient was no longer using any medications — only carrying Albuterol in the event of an emergency.

“Childhood asthma is a prevalent in the United States with nine million people under the age of 18 suffering from this debilitating lung ailment, four times as many as 20 years ago,” noted Dr. David Russ, a Wilmington-based chiropractor whose has invested in the Insight technology. “For some, this leads to a lifetime of suffering or, for those less fortunate, death. There are approximately 5,000 deaths annually in the U.S. that are linked to asthma. After reading about Dr. Fedorchuk’s research, I wanted to do more for those in my community who fight respiratory ailments,” continued Russ.

“The use of technology identifies areas of disturbance in the nervous system that could be caused by stress, trauma or toxins. Asthmatics have more frequent incidents of misalignment of the upper and lower thoracic region, which is the area of the shoulders and below,” explained Russ. “That condition can lead to dysponesis — best described as a short circuit effect between the brain and muscles — which in turn causes abnormal tonic muscle activity. Shoulder tension triggers a decrease in lung volume, which increases the likelihood of respiratory ailments. The patient simply has less air to breathe. Since dysponesis can lead to asthma, we can now help prevent or manage the disease by treating its underlying cause,” he added.

Today’s medical treatment of asthma remains largely pharmacological. Despite the increase in prescription drug usage, the prevalence of asthma increased 75% from 1980-1994. Direct health care costs for asthma-related illnesses in the U.S. amount to more than $11.5 billion annually — with over $5 billion of that figure being directed towards prescription drugs.

“Aside from the obvious physical benefits this little girl derived from her chiropractic adjustments, one can’t dismiss the financial ramifications during this time of economic woe. Her need for medication decreased along with her medical bills. With all that in mind, you might say that chiropractic care for asthmatics is a breath of fresh air,” concluded a smiling Russ.  Dr. Russ has this same equipment at his office, which he uses regularly to help in determining how to best help his patients. Anyone interesting in learning more about this can call 910-395-5066 to request a complementary consultation.

Vertigo, ‘ringing in the ears,’ and hearing loss resolved – Chiropractor Wilmington NC

Chiropractic Care Benefits 40-Yr. Old Sufferer of Meniere’s Disease

(Wilmington, NC).  Meniere’s Disease was first identified as a specific ailment back in 1861 by Prosper Meniere, a 19th-century French doctor who served as chief physician at an institute for deaf-mutes.  His studies there led to his specialization in diseases of the ear.

“Meniere’s disease, or MD, is thought to affect one in 1,000 people, or about one-tenth of one percent of the world’s population,” said Wilmington-based Dr. David Russ, D.C., who keeps current on a wide variety of health and wellness issues.  “Both sexes are affected equally, and the White race seems to be affected more than any other,” the doctor continued.  “MD’s onset usually occurs between the ages of 20 and 50.”

In this particular case study of a 40-year old female, the patient had been diagnosed with MD and had a 3-month history of vertigo and a 16-month history of tinnitus, which is often characterizes as “ear-ringing” by lay persons, in her left ear.  She also showed a low frequency hearing loss.

According to the case study report, which was published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine,

The patient underwent a course of chiropractic [care] consisting of spinal manipulative therapy in the cervical and thoracic spine, soft-tissue trigger-point therapy, home ice therapy (as needed), and cervical spine rehabilitation exercises.

“The patient’s initial course of chiropractic care consisted of three visits per week for two weeks,” said Dr. Russ. “After just two weeks, her tinnitus was resolved and her vertigo was much improved.”

The patient continued with chiropractic care on a less frequent, maintenance program, and her MD continued to remain under control.

“This study represents a very preliminary level of findings, and much more research is needed,” Dr. Russ added.  “But the results should offer some encouragement for people suffering with the symptoms of Meniere’s Disease.”

Chiropractic Care Helps Multiple Sclerosis Patient – Chiropractor Wilmington NC

(Wilmington, NC).   According to a recent case study published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal, & Family Health, a 51-year old female patient suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), among other complaints, sought chiropractic care.  She had previously been treated by a number of other health care- professionals, including a neurologist and gastrointestinal specialist.

chiropractor Wilmington Chiropractic Care Helps Multiple Sclerosis Patient – Chiropractor Wilmington NC

Chiropractic care is often thought of only in terms of relief from a back or neck injury,” said Dr. David Russ,a Wilmington-based chiropractor who strives to keep current with the latest research and developments in health and wellness.

“But the truth is that case studies suggest many different health problems may respond to a regular program of chiropractic care.”

MS is a highly debilitating disease of the central nervous system and is caused by a number of factors.  It is diagnosed through a series of tests conducted by medical professionals.  There is no known cure for the condition.

This particular patient was examined by her team of chiropractors using an instrument known as the Insight Subluxation Station.  They detected the presence of vertebral subluxations in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions.

“A subluxation is a misalignment of the spine that disturbs normal nervous system function,” said Dr. Russ.  “Many chiropractors, including myself, have non-intrusive technology allowing them to conduct thermal imaging tests to assist in locating where such conditions exist.”

The patient was seen for a total of 105 chiropractic sessions, at the time of the case study report, starting with three visits per week and decreasing to one visit per week.  SEMG and thermal tests, using the Insight Subluxation Station, were conducted at various points in the course of care to monitor results.  Her doctors also introduced a special diet to reduce inflammation in the body and stress-relieving exercises.

After just 12 chiropractic sessions, the patient reported a lessening of pain throughout her body and increased mobility.  Her symptoms continued to show improvement during her chiropractic care, and she was able to discontinue the use of some of her medications.

“There are certainly no guarantees with any course of care,” said Russ.  “But we see, from time to time, individual case studies that give rise to hope for many.  Positive results for MS sufferers through chiropractic care have been reported in case studies since the early 1990?s, but we must always keep in mind that every case depends on the specific factors associated with that case.”

Seven-Year Old Kaylynne Dies After Routine Flu Shot – Chiropractor Wilmington NC

Nicole is a Vermont mother, whose seven year old daughter, Kaylynne, died within 92 hours of a routine flu shot in December 2011. [13]

“Kaylynne was very outgoing. She was shy but she made herself known. She loved hugs. She loved every kind of animal. She was always trying to get her Dad to bring animals to take care of and nurture. She loved her brother and sisters. She was Miss Mom to her little sisters. She was Nate’s best friend. They did a lot together outdoors. She was a wild girl. She wasn’t really scared of anything. She was very, very intelligent. She means the world to our family,” said Nicole.

Nicole described what happened the day Kaylynne died.

“She was a healthy seven year old child before her flu shot. She went from being very healthy, nothing wrong with her, to passing away 92 hours later. First, was a headache. Then there was a fever. After the fever, she started getting sick to her stomach, throwing up. And the, she was cold and she had purple blotches on her arms and legs. We rushed her to the doctor’s office. I was in the back seat with her. My mother was driving and she stopped breathing probably less than a mile away from the hospital. If I would have known then what I know now about vaccination, it would have been a whole different story. My daughter would still be here with us.”

More Informed Vaccine Choices Needed, Says Kaylynne’s Mom

Nicole believes that parents should be fully informed and able to make voluntary decisions about vaccination for their children.

“If I would have known the reactions and symptoms of adverse reactions to vaccination, I would have had her seen immediately. If I would have known about the risks and symptoms, I would have been most likely able to save my daughter,” said Nicole. “I feel that Vermonters need to be educated and be able to make their own decisions on whether or not they want to vaccinate their children and pediatricians and physicians, as well, need to be more educated.”

VT Health Commissioner & Pharma Funded Orgs Lobbying Legislators

The Vermont State Health Commissioner agrees. He told one reporter: “Of course, it’s important for parents to understand the risks and benefits, and I have absolute respect for their right to make their own decisions.” [14]

Then, why is he joining with medical trade organizations funded by vaccine manufacturers, like the American Academy of Pediatrics, [15][16][17][18][19] and trying to take away the right for Vermont parents to make their own vaccine decisions? [20]  Especially when the state of Vermont is rated the Number One healthiest state? [21]

Parental Informed Consent Rights Protect Children

If the philosophical exemption to vaccination is removed from Vermont state law, Nicole and parents like Nicole will have no choice.

Kaylynne’s Dad, Justin, said “I feel strongly about protecting my children because, as parents, we should have the right to do the best for our kids.” Nicole added, “If I can’t get a medical signature from a medical physician to do an exemption for philosophical rights, my other children are at risk and that takes my rights as a mother away to protect my children.”

Vaccine Business A Multi-Billion Dollar Business

Today, the federal government recommends that children get 69 doses of 16 vaccines from day of birth to age 18. Most of these vaccines are required for children to attend school in the state of Vermont.

The vaccine business is a multi-billion dollar big business. [22][23][24] There are hundreds of new vaccines being created by drug companies [25][26][27] and most of these new vaccines will be federally recommended for children, like Syphilis Vaccine, [28] Gonorrhea Vaccine, [29] Genital Herpes Vaccine,[30] Hepatitis C  Vaccine, [31]E-Coli Vaccine, [32] Salmonella Vaccine, [33] Chlamydia Vaccine, [34] Cytomegalovirus Vaccine; [35] HIV/AIDS Vaccine, [36] Tooth Decay Vaccine; [37] Anti-Smoking Vaccine, [38] Anti-Cocaine Addiction Vaccine; [39][40] Bad Breath Vaccine; [41] Diabetes Vaccine; [42] Asthma Vaccine, [43] Norovirus Vaccine [44] and many, many more.

In the future, the state of Vermont could add 10, 20, 30 or more vaccinations to state public health laws.

Should every vaccine that Big Pharma creates and doctors want legislators to mandate be legally required for all children without parents being informed and allowed to make a voluntary choice?

Vermont Parents Plead for Opposition to Proposed Legislation

Vermont families want options, especially when the risks of vaccination for their child turn out to be 100 percent.

Nicole and Justin are appealing to parents and Vermont legislators.

“Do your research on what is in vaccinations,” said Nicole. “Find out symptoms and reactions and then make your own decision. As of this moment, Vermonters have to fight to protect their right to be able to make their own decisions to protect their children. We are asking for the legislators to please oppose S. 199 and H. 527 to take away our philosophical exemption.”

“We, as Americans, should have our choice,” said Justin.

When is the last time your heard about a chiropractor killing a child? Never, because in over 100 years and millions adjusted, not one child has died. If you are willing to take your child to CVS to be injected with something backed by shoddy science that puts your child’s life at risk, you need to educate yourself. Did you know that people undergoing chiropractic care have up to a 200% greater immune response than the average person, thus making them more resistant to illness? Save a life and bring your child to a chiropractor to be checked to see if they can benefit like the millions of kids that already are. Don’t let you child become a statistic and stay away from the flu vaccine.

Improvements in Developmental Delay, Colic and GERD in a Child Undergoing Chiropractic Care – Chiropractor Wilmington NC

(Wilmington, NC). A recent article in the Journal of Maternal & Family Health reported on a 15-month-old female diagnosed with developmental delays, colic and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who underwent chiropractic care over the 18 weeks.

A 15-month-old female presented to a chiropractic office after her mother noticed developmental delays in the child. Wilmington-based Dr. David Russ, D.C., who regularly monitors health and wellness issues closely in professional journals and other publications, stated, “The developmental delays in this child included not standing, walking or talking for her age level.” Dr. Russ went on to say, “Previous chiropractic care had been sought for complaints of GERD and colic in the childchiropractor Wilmington Improvements in Developmental Delay, Colic and GERD in a Child Undergoing Chiropractic Care Chiropractor Wilmington NC from birth to 5 months of age.  Those complaints had resolved after she received three chiropractic adjustments, once a month for three consecutive months.”

Colic has been traditionally described as crying, in a healthy infant, more than three hours per day, more than three days a week, for more than three weeks.  It is thought to be prevalent in up to 21% of infants.  The continuous crying and irritability of the infant has been shown to affect the baby’s development by causing delays neurologically along with negative behavioral problems up to three years of age.  Children affected tend to have more temper tantrums and sleeping disabilities. Dr. Russ stated, “One study described upper cervical adjustments using knee chest being delivered to 16 infants experiencing colic and GERD, of which 100% of cases responded positively to care.”

Standard medical practice for GERD is prescription medication.  Zantac is the preferred drug of choice, but it is not always successful.  Anti reflux procedures can also be used, but there is no disease specific quality of life instrument for GERD in children. Colic is usually managed with the prescription of Dicyclomine.  Dicyclomine is commonly given which reduces crying by 63% of the time, but has side effects of apnea, seizures and coma and Dicyclomine usage is a contraindication if the infant is under 6 months of age.

Milestones are used to track a child’s development, for example, the proper age for standing and walking is 9 and 11 months.  In the past decade there has been a 5-20% increase in the number of children who experience developmental delay syndrome (DDS).  Since 1990 the number of prescriptions for Methylphenidate (Ritalin) has increased by 700%.  The children who are treated pharmacologically suffer from subtle or not so subtle cognitive impairments that persist into adulthood and can affect employment status, educational achievements, health care consumption, and criminality.  Fortunately there is some evidence that multimodal chiropractic methods have been efficient in helping children by reducing symptoms in DDS.

In this study, a 15-month-old female presented at a chiropractic office seeking chiropractic care after her mother noticed developmental delays.  These developmental delays included not standing, walking or talking for her age level.  She had not been speaking more than 2 syllables, which was congruent with a 9-month development pattern.  Overall she had a 6-month developmental delay.  If she had met the proper milestones, she would have been walking unassisted by 12 months and speaking at least 2-3 word phrases.

The patient received chiropractic care once a week for a total of 19 visits.  The care consisted of chiropractic adjustments to C-1 using a Toggle Headpiece with alight thrust and a drop.  Her right sacrum was also adjusting using Logan sustained contact. By the third visit, she started walking with assistance.  By the 4th visit she was walking on her toes with assistance.  By the 6th visit she was walking and holding onto the table and had also added more words to her vocabulary.  By the 9th visit, she had taken 6 steps by herself and added three more words to her vocabulary.

By the 18th visit she was standing by herself and had added 3-4 more words to her vocabulary including some she spoke in Greek.  A reassessment was done on her 19th visit, at which time she was 19 months old.  She was walking at a 12-month level and her speech was at the proper developmental milestone.  In addition she did not show any signs of developmental delay.

“This is just one study,” explained Dr. Russ, “but it adds to the evidence regarding chiropractic care and DDS.  More research needs to be done in the area of developmental delays and the benefits of chiropractic care for the pediatric population.”

Healthy Eating and Cancer Awareness – Chiropractor Wilmington NC

The following is a guest blog written by Leroy Templeton, a recent college graduate and health nut looking to make a difference, about cancer and how to deal with the effects of chemotherapy should you decide to pursue that avenue of treatment.

A cancer diagnosis certainly does mean changes in lifestyle for the patient before, during and after treatment. Maintaining a healthy diet is essential, however exactly what the cancer patients needs to stay healthy and able to endure the process of chemotherapy and other treatments is slightly different than the required intake for the population at large.

Preparing For Chemotherapy

This form of treatment affects all of the body’s systems, and the result of chemo is often a lack of appetite, a disruption in metabolism and changes in the efficiency of digestion and absorption. It is therefore necessary to have the body in good overall condition before treatment begins, and one of the most effective ways to do this is to undertake a daily food regimen that is loaded with proteins, vitamins and foods that are otherwise easy to digest. The need for protein usually increases during chemotherapy, and since the body needs a certain amount of complementary proteins as well as complete proteins from meat and fish, combining foods rich in protein material and yet are easy on the digestive system is highly recommended. These would include eggs, dairy products and legumes, especially protein-laden beans.

Weight Loss During Cancer Treatment

Weight loss is a notorious symptom of cancer in many patients. However undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment often increases this reduction in weight, so patients are often encouraged to pack on the calories before treatment begins. This can actually mean an increased amount of fat intake, combined with foods that are again rich in proteins. However it is vitally important to make sure that every calorie counts – avoid empty calories like soda pop – and instead go heavy on the meat, fish, starches such as potatoes and rice, and remember to also get a good amount of fiber. A bowl of oatmeal that contains brown sugar as a sweetener is fine, but instead of relying on sugar alone, try out foods that are naturally sweet such as berries. These often have more protein and a greater amount of usable carbohydrates than many fruits such as apples or oranges.

Plentiful Amounts of Water

Both before and during chemotherapy treatments it is essential to increase the water intake. Most forms of cancer treatment put a strain on the kidneys and it is important not to tax them further. Hydrating the body fully also helps to reduce nausea symptoms from chemotherapy, not to mention reducing pain that is often felt as a result of undernourished cells. Extensive intake of water has also been noted to help prevent and limit the effects of many respiratory cancers including lung cancer and papillary mesothelioma. Also, many patients perspire more during cancer treatment, have diarrhea or watery discharges, so replacing this lost fluid is vital.

Always follow the advice of the physician in charge of treatment and recovery. After being treated it is always recommended that a healthy diet and plenty of exercise, even during the initial recovery period, be undertaken to reduce lingering symptoms and help regain lost body mass. Exercise in combination with diet will tone the muscles, which are often weakened during cancer treatment.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Leroy brought up quite a few very good points in this very informative post. One thing I will add the most people don’t know about is that chiropractic is often used in conjunction with chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment to help relieve pain, improve lymphatic drainage, and enhance the nervous system. If you or anyone you know is undergoing therapy for cancer be sure to include chiropractic in your treatment plan. For any questions please visit Chiropractor Wilmington NC.

A Systemic Review Of The Literature shows promising data:

The Chiropractic Care of Infants with Colic

chiropractor Wilmington Screaming babies silenced? Chiropractor Wilmington NC(Chiropractor Wilmington NC). A recent article in Explore performed a systemic review of the literature on the chiropractic care of patients with infantile colic.  26 articles were included, which consisted of three clinical trials, two survey studies, six case reports, two case series, four cohort studies, five commentaries and four reviews of the literature.

“A common definition of colic is: crying at least three hours per day on at least three days of at least three weeks.  The occurrence of infantile colic in the population varies and ranges from 10% to 40% depending on the study methodology, the population and the definition of infantile colic used.”  Dr. David Russ, Wilmington-based, D.C., who follows health and wellness issues closely in professional journals and other publications, “Abuse is a concern in these situations such as slapping, hitting or shaking the baby.  Not surprisingly, marital tension and social disruption within the family and poor sleeping habits and frequent temper tantrums on the part of the child were reported, even well past the course of the child’s colic symptoms.”

The findings of the review revealed that chiropractic care is a viable alternative to the care of infantile colic and congruent with evidence-based practice, particularly when one considers that medical care options are no better than placebo or have associated adverse affects.

“Chiropractic care is an alternative approach to the care of the child with colic,” explained Dr. Russ, “I encourage more research, both quantitative and qualitative, in this area of pediatric care.”

The Effect of Add-On Yogic Prana Energization Technique on Healing of Fresh Fractures

chiropractor Wilmington Yoga Heals Bone Breaks Chiropractor Wilmington NC(Chiropractor Wilmington NC). A recent article in the Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine reported on a study that documented the positive effects of Yoga Prana Energization Technique (YPET) on the healing of fresh fractures.
“Bone fractures represent a global medical challenge for health care administrators, orthopedic care providers and patients alike, as millions of people across the world are afflicted by these injuries annually” said Dr. David Russ, a Wilmington-based chiropractor who follows health and wellness issues closely in professional journals and other publications. “In fact, of the estimated 6.2 million fractures occurring annually in the United States, between 5% and 10% exhibit either delayed healing or non-union. Even those fractures that heal ideally without complications can take months to heal.”
Thirty patients, 22 men and 8 women, between the ages of 18 and 55 with simple fractures of long and short bones were selected and randomized into yoga and control groups. Both groups received the conventional plaster of paris immobilization of the fracture site as the primary treatment. The yoga group, in addition, practiced YPET twice a day (30 minutes/day) for two weeks using taped audio instructions after learning under supervision for one week. “YPET is an advanced yoga relaxation practice that involves breath regulation, chanting, and visualization, which according to yogic science revitalizes the tissues by activating the subtle energies (prana) within the body.” stated Dr. Russ.

Both groups were assessed on the 1st day and the 21st day by the Numerical Pain Rating Scale for pain, tenderness, swelling, fracture line density and the bridging of cortices. The yoga group, when compared to the control group showed better pain reduction, reduced tenderness and swelling, increased fracture line density and the number of cortices were significantly better.

“This is just one study,” explained Dr. Russ, “but the role of add-on yoga-
based YPET and its beneficial effects on the fracture healing merit further investigation.

chiropractor Wilmington The Shocking Connection Between Hurricanes and Your HealthI was just sitting down after a few early afternoon adjustments and the big thing on everyone’s mind is Hurricane Irene and the preparations they are making/ need to make. And I got to thinking that couldn’t this be a metaphor for how many of us treat our body?

Think about it.

Whenever there is a hurricane people flock to the stores to stock up on hurricane supplies both perishable and nonperishable. For our purposes lets talk just about the non-perishable items, namely stuff that isn’t food. Home Depot and Lowes are crazy places right now with people buying up candles, batteries, flashlights, generators, cutting plywood to cover windows, containers to hold emergency water, etc. To me this is a metaphor for how most of us deal with all issues. We ignore the risks and ramifications associated with our actions and in-actions and then frantically scurry about trying to make things right at the 11th hour. This is all stuff that we should have on hand anyway.

Hurricanes have been hitting our area for hundreds or thousands of years, if not more. Why do we act surprised when another one is coming. The old Boy Scout motto is ‘be prepared.’ This means being ready for as much as possible at all times.

When it comes to your health, how do you prepare? Do you wait until you are on the brink of permanent disability or disease before addressing your health problems? Or do you prepare by getting plenty of rest, exercise, good food, having a good attitude, and a body free of nerve interference?

Being able to successfully overcome challenges, whether with hurricanes or your health, preparation is key.

So take it from an Eagle Scout and ‘Be prepared.’
